Bangladeshi Hindu couple held for illegally entering India via Nepal
PILIBHIT, Feb 5: A Bangladeshi Hindu couple and their four-year-old child have been detained by police here for allegedly entering the country illegally via Nepal on Wednesday.The couple arrived in Nepal on January 28 with visas valid until February 10.They then crossed into India and sought shelter in Gabhiya Saharai village, a Terai region settlement known for housing displaced Bengali families.According to police, the family’s movements over the past week are being investigated and they were detained following input from intelligence agencies.The couple told police that they fled Bangladesh due to increased persecution of minorities after a change in government.They connected with members of the Bengali community in Nepal before crossing into India and local villagers provided them with shelter. Man arrested for poisoning minor son to death
AHMEDABAD, Feb 5: A man here allegedly killed his 10-year-old son by giving him water mixed with sodium nitrite, a poisonous substance, police said on Wednesday.Kalpesh Gohel (47), who did not carry out his original plan to commit suicide after killing his children, was arrested following the incident on Tuesday, police said, adding the reason behind the crime was not yet clear.Gohel initially gave a “medicine” to his son Om and 15-year-old daughter Jiya to prevent vomiting, at his residence. He then allegedly gave his son water mixed with sodium nitrite.The man had planned to commit suicide after poisoning his children, but developed cold feet after witnessing the deteriorating condition of his son and fled the house. While his daughter was not affected, his son started vomiting and turned pale. (PTI)
Man shot dead by fellow hunters after being mistaken for wild boar
PALGHAR, (Maharashtra) Feb 5: A hunting expedition by a group of villagers went fatally wrong as one of them was shot dead by some other members, who allegedly mistook him for a wild boar in a forest area in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Wednesday.One person was injured in the incident that took place in the night of January 28, they said, adding that at least six men have been detained in this connection.During the expedition, some villagers got separated from the group. After some time, one of the hunters mistook them for wild boars and opened fire, hitting two villagers. One of them died on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries.police said.Shocked and panicked by the accidental killing, the group dragged the deceased person’s body into the bushes and hid it instead of reporting about the incidentAfter receiving a tip-off, the police conducted a probe and detained six villagers suspected to be involved in the crime. There are reports that the injured villager also succumbed to his wounds during treatment and his body has been cremated by the villagers without informing the authorities.
