Elephant tramples man, woman to death
Kannur, Feb 23: A man and a woman were allegedly trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Aralam farm area of this district on Sunday evening, police said here. The victims have been identified as Velli and Leela, residents of the 13th block. They belong to the tribal community. The incident occurred in the 13th block of the Aralam tribal resettlement area when they went out to collect cashew nuts. Police and forest department officials have arrived at the site. Their remains will be taken to the Government Medical College at Pariyaram. (PTI)
Children found dead inside well in Bihar
Samastipur, Feb 23: The bodies of three children of a family, who had reportedly gone missing, were recovered from a well in Bihar’s Samastipur district on Sunday, police said. The deceased have been identified as Tarun Kumar (6), Tanya Kumari (4.5) and Tanishq (2.5), children of Chandan Mahattha, a resident of Chakmehshi. “Mahattha had lodged a missing complaint of his three kids on Saturday. The local police formed a team and launched a search operation to find the children. The bodies were later recovered from a well close to their house,” a police statement said. The children were likely thrown into the well by somebody. Prima facie, family dispute appears to be the reason behind this, it said. Further investigation is underway. (PTI)
Teen drugged, raped at birthday party
Palghar, Feb 23: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and raped by her boyfriend at a birthday party in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Sunday. Based on a complaint, the Virar police on Friday registered a case against the accused under sections 123 (causing hurt using poison, etc. with intent to commit an offence) and 65(1) (rape of woman under 16 years of age) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, an official said. The complainant has alleged that the accused took her to the birthday party of a common friend on the evening of January 2 and offered her cake and drinks laced with sedatives, he said. The official said the teen fell unconscious and was allegedly raped by the accused in the bedroom of their friend’s house. (PTI)
Tiger cub found dead in MP’s Bandhavgarh
Umaria, Feb 23: A tiger cub was found dead on Sunday in the core area of Bandhavgarh Tiger in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said. Khitauli Range Officer Swasti Shri Jain told PTI the cub, in the 8-10 month age group, was found with a broken neck and was possibly killed by a big cat. (PTI)
