Court convicts man in POCSO case, awards 14-year jail

SHILLONG, Feb 26: In a significant judgment, the Court of SG Momin, Special Judge (POCSO) East Khasi Hills, Shillong, has convicted Shaiphir Khasain Shabong in a POCSO case dated back to 2017. The accused was found guilty under sections 6 of the POCSO Act, 376 (2) (i) (n) of the IPC, and 506 of the IPC.
The court has sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 14 years under the POCSO Act, along with a fine of Rs 15,000. An additional three months of simple imprisonment will be imposed if the fine is not paid. Similarly, the accused has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 376 (2) (i) of the IPC, along with a fine of Rs 15,000 and an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
Furthermore, the accused has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment under section 506 of the IPC, along with a fine of Rs 5,000 and an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
The case was investigated by WPSI L Kharjana of Lumdiengjri Police Station.
