Shillong, Feb 26: First-time MDC, Shemborlang Rynjah will lead the new Executive Committee (EC) in the VPP-led KHADC as Chief Executive Member (CEM) while Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC, Strong Pillar Kharjana will be the chairman.
Rynjah, who represents the Langkyrdem-Laitkroh constituency, was named the CEM during a meeting of the VPP MDCs held at the residence of party supremo, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit at Laitkor on Wednesday.
There will be two women members out of the seven Executive Members (EMs) in the new EC—Mylliem MDC, Aibandaplin F Lyngdoh and Laitumkhrah-Malki MDC, Deity H Majaw.
The other five EMs are journalist turned politician, Powell Sohkhlet (Mawthadraishan-Pariong) Seiborlang Rynjah (Mawkynrew), Isynei Hinge (Umroi), Pynkhraw Kharjahrin (Mawkyrwat), and Winston Tony Lyngdoh (Nongthymmai).
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the VPP chief said the new EC will try to fulfil the party’s election promises since people have given the VPP absolute majority to lead the EC in the KHADC.
He said that the party is committed to ensure that there is no wasteful expenditure of public money in the council.
He informed that the new EC in the KHADC will have a total of eight members, including the CEM, and they will have two MDCs holding the position of chairman and vice chairman.
The VPP chief said that the new EC will examine all the allegations against the previous EC and take corrective measures against deficiencies and irregularities in order to streamline the functioning of the council.
He said that the party will not hesitate in taking stringent measures if it is established that there was alleged misuse of power and misutilisation of funds by the previous EC.
The VPP chief said they will leave it to the wisdom of the new CEM and the new EC to decide the priorities once they assume office.
Meanwhile, the VPP chief also made it clear that the party will sit in the opposition in the JHADC.
Informing that the party leadership has already met the eight party MDCs in the JHADC, he said their stand is clear that the party will not make any effort to form the EC.
In the meantime, the VPP EC members of the KHADC are set to hold a brainstorming session to chalk out the roadmap and set their priorities clear.
The meet is slated after the oath-taking ceremony on Thursday.
CEM-designate Shemborlang Rynjah told The Shillong Times that a host of issues have to be addressed and the party will have an in-depth discourse on the same before making their plans public.
Refusing to disclose anything in details, he said that the discussion will involve all the party MDCs and everyone will be given a chance to have their say.
