SHILLONG, March 3: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur have postponed their scheduled visits to the state.
Sitharaman was scheduled to visit Shillong from March 2 to 4.
This is the second time she has cancelled her visit to the state. Earlier, she was scheduled to visit the state for two days from February 27.
As per the previous itinerary, the Finance minister was scheduled to interact with the students and faculties of IIM, Shillong at Umsawli on Sunday.
On Monday, she was scheduled to visit the Land Customs Station in Dawki and hold interactions with members of women self-help groups from Jaintia Hills.
She was scheduled to fly by chopper from Dawki to Sohra later in the afternoon. She was expected to visit Umkar Living Root Bridge at Siej village. After this, Sitharaman was supposed to inaugurate the new operation theatre at Sohra Community Health Centre funded by the World Bank.
Later in the evening, she was expected to visit Ramakrishna Mission at Sohra and stay overnight at the Orchid Resort Sohra.
On Tuesday, the Union Finance Minister was scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Integrated Complex at Umsawli, New Shillong Township.
Sitharaman was also expected to hold a post-budget interaction with the industry players, Chartered Accountants, Tax Consultants, etc.
Sources revealed that the Union Finance Minister has now rescheduled her plans to visit Meghalaya in April.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur who was also scheduled to visit Shillong on Monday to hold a review meeting with senior officials of the state government on the implementation of various centrally-sponsored schemes also postponed her proposed visit.
The reasons for the postponement of their visits to Meghalaya could not be ascertained as no official reasons were provided.
