Shillong Airport expansion plan on track

SHILLONG, March 3: The state government and the Airports Authority of India are working in tandem to upgrade the Shillong Airport and acquire additional land for the expansion of the present runway.
A government official said that the AAI is working on a proposal for upgrade of the airport while the state government has initiated talks with the defence authorities to acquire land for the expansion of the runway.
The government is looking to upgrade the airport within 12-18 months.
The government has requested the defence authorities to allow the installation of the instrument landing system (ILS) on their land and a positive response is being awaited.
