Assam beat Bihar 2-1 in Senior Women National hockey c’ship
Panchkula, March 3: Assam defeated Bihar 2-1 in a Division B match of the 15th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship at the Tau Devi Lal stadium here on Monday. After a tightly contested first quarter, Assam broke the deadlock right before half-time with captain Munmuni Das (29th minute) successfully converting a penalty corner and then Khushboo Prajapati (59th) converted another set piece to double their lead. Bihar scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute through Nusrat Khatoon. In a Division C match on Sunday, Andhra Pradesh recorded a 4-2 win against Jammu and Kashmir. Revathi Thalari (3th, 17th) scored a brace for her side while Harathi Lomada (36th) and Madugula Bhavani (45th) also contributed with the goals for Andhra Pradesh. Rajni (10th) and Anju Kumari (57th) were the scorers for Jammu and Kashmir. In the last Division C match on Sunday, Puducherry enjoyed a dominant 6-1 win over Arunachal in Pool B. Jayaprtha S (13th, 39th, 41st) scored a hat-trick for Puducherry while B Deepika (4th, 22nd) and S Subasri (40th) also found the net for the winners. Hema Navait (5th) was the lone goal getter for Arunachal. (PTI)

World Para Athletics Grand Prix to start from March 11 in New Delhi
New Delhi, March 3: Para athletes from more than 20 countries will participate in 90 events across three days as India hosts its first-ever World Para Athletics Grand Prix here from March 11-13. The athletes participating in the Grand Prix to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium are from countries such as Germany, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, among others. The event will be attended by Majid Rashed, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) president, and Tarek Souei, CEO of the Asian Paralympic Committee. (PTI)

Khelo India Winter Games to be held from March 9 to 12
Srinagar, March 3: The Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 will be held at Gulmarg from March 9 to 12 following heavy snowfall over the past few days in the higher reaches of the valley. The Winter Games, which were earlier scheduled to be held from February 22 to 25, had to be postponed due to lack of snow at Gulmarg with Kashmir witnessing one of its driest winters in recent history. This is the second leg of the Winter games where competitions will be held in skiing and snowboarding. The first leg of the games were held in Leh district of Ladakh in January this year where athletes competed in ice-skating and ice-hockey events. (PTI)

Pakistan to host six-team Women’s ODI World Cup qualifiers
Karachi, March 3: Pakistan will be the venue for the six-team Women’s 50-overs World Cup qualifiers later this month after being confirmed as the hosts for another ICC tournament. An official from the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on Monday that they are working with the ICC to confirm the dates and venues for the competition. The six-team event will consist of Pakistan, Scotland, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the West Indies. The official informed that Karachi, Multan and Faisalabad are being considered as the possible venues given that the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will begin on April 11. “It is a big boost for us that soon after the Champions Trophy we are getting ready to host another ICC event,” the official said. Pakistan will be hosting a multi-team women’s ICC event for the first time, having held the eight-team ongoing Champions Trophy as well as a tri-series also involving New Zealand and South Africa earlier. Rahul Sachdev beat K Venkatesham in first round of CCI Snooker Classic
Mumbai, March 3: Qualifier Rahul Sachdev romped to a 4-0 win over K Venkatesham in a first round contest of the CCI Snooker Classic, an all-India tournament, here on Monday. The left-handed Sachdev remained composed throughout the contest and was consistent with his pots to compile a sequence of four substantial breaks of 51, 67, 71 and 83. Sachdev did not give his opponent from Railways much of a chance as he cruised to an 83-58, 106-0, 99-9, 92-0 win. In other matches, Kanishk Jhanjharia of CCI lost to Khar Gymkhana’s Nikhil Saigal in four frames. Saigal constructed breaks of 57 and 36 in the second and third frames to complete a 4-0 (65-35, 78-53, 69-41, 64-38) victory. (PTI)
