Shillong, March 6: Shillong Lajong will take on current I-League leaders Churchill Brothers in a pivotal clash at the Raia Stadium, Goa, on Friday. The match is set to kick off at 4:30 pm.
This will be Lajong’s fourth consecutive away fixture as they look to build on their hard-fought 4-3 victory against Gokulam Kerala in their previous outing. The thrilling triumph saw the Shillong-based side showcase resilience and attacking flair, and they will aim to carry forward the winning momentum against the formidable Red Machines.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Lajong head coach Jose Carlos Rodriguez Hevia acknowledged the different challenge posed by Churchill Brothers, who currently sit atop the points table with 31 points from 17 matches. Hevia, however, remained optimistic, highlighting the team’s dominant performance and fighting spirit in their previous game.
“The team played well and fought until the last whistle against Gokulam Kerala. Tomorrow will be a different challenge as Churchill Brothers are the league leaders, but we are confident in our abilities and will give our best to fight for all three points,” said Hevia.
Shillong Lajong currently occupy 5th position in the standings with 26 points from 17 matches, separated from 4th-placed Namdhari FC only by head-to-head record. A victory for Lajong could propel them to 3rd place, narrowing the gap to just two points from the top spot. Meanwhile, a win for Churchill Brothers would further solidify their lead at the summit.
The reverse fixture between the two sides ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw in Shillong, setting the stage for another exciting contest.
Football fans can catch the action live on Sony Sports Channel, the SSEN mobile app, and the ssen.co website.
