SHILLONG, March 7: A day after a majority of the MLAs from Garo Hills opposed the resolution to urge the state government to examine the demand of establishing a winter capital in Tura, the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has strongly condemned the Garo Hills MLAs for rejecting the motion.
The ACHIK felt that the shameful and irresponsible conduct of the MLAs from Garo Hills who, despite being elected by the people of Garo Hills, have betrayed their mandate by rejecting the motion for a winter capital in Tura.
‘This is not just a political failure but a direct attack on the legitimate aspirations and rights of the people of Garo Hills’ they said.
According to the group, by rejecting the motion, the MLAs from Garo Hills have failed to represent the interests of their people.
Instead of standing for regional equity and justice, they have chosen to prioritize their political alliances and personal gains over the welfare of the region.
They accused the MLAs of surrendering to political pressure rather than fighting for the rights and aspirations of their constituents, they have aligned with forces that continue to treat Garo Hills as a secondary region in the state.
They said that they will not let this betrayal go unnoticed and now they will hold public representatives accountable by publicly exposing the names of the MLAs who voted against the motion and demand an explanation from them.
They also vowed to organise protests, awareness campaigns, and democratic demonstrations to ensure the demand for a winter capital in Tura remains at the forefront.
“We will petition the governor, the president of India, and other constitutional bodies to intervene and ensure decentralization of governance in Meghalaya.
