SHILLONG, March 7: Mowkaiaw UDP MLA Nurjoki Sungoh disagreed with the justification of the state government that the Block Labour Office (BLO) at Laskein, in West Jaintia Hills was temporarily shifted to the District Labour Office, Jowai due to poor internet connectivity.
After Sungoh inquired about the closure of the BLO at Laskein, Minister in charge of Employment and Skill Development Shakliar Warjri said that the office is not closed and is currently functioning from the District Labour Office, Jowai.
Warjri added that poor internet connectivity in the area prompted the decision to shift BLO as it poses difficulties as most of the works are done online.
Refusing to give in to this justification, Sungoh said that there is no internet connectivity problem and perhaps the staff are too lazy to come to rural areas.
In reply, Warjri said, “As per the information available the shifting is purely due to poor internet network”.
He further informed that the BLO will soon continue to operate from the rented house in Laskein.
Sungoh highlighted the difficulties the labourers will face if they travel to Jowai for registration.
The minister informed that the state government is trying to set up more BLO offices in all the blocks.
