SHILLONG, March 11: The bust of the late Robert Garnet Lyngdoh was officially unveiled on Monday, marking his 65th birth anniversary and paying tribute to his lasting legacy in aesthetics and well-being.
This initiative, led by artist Raphael Warjri, was a significant moment in honouring Lyngdoh’s remarkable contributions to society.
The statue was inaugurated in a heartfelt ceremony by artists from Riti Academy, members of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum, and Lyngdoh’s family, who came together to commemorate his life and legacy.
The event held special significance as it not only celebrated his birth anniversary but also served as a solemn tribute to his enduring impact. A prayer service, led by Raymus Wahlang, was attended by friends, family, and well-wishers who gathered to honor the legendary figure.
Raphael Warjri, the driving force behind the project, delivered a poignant speech, reflecting on the profound influence of RG Lyngdoh. He drew inspiration from one of Lyngdoh’s innovative ventures, Matter of Taste, emphasising the importance of embracing creativity and the vision of eternal harmony that Lyngdoh championed.
Warjri spoke about how Lyngdoh’s ideals of social and human harmony profoundly shaped his own artistic journey, leading him to forge a unique connection between his artistic expression and Lyngdoh’s philosophy. This synergy inspired him to introduce the abbreviation ‘MOT EH DAW’, which stands for Monument of Strengthening the Aura of the Great Soul – Matter of Taste, Eternal Harmony, and Dedication to Aesthetics and Well-being.  This phrase encapsulates the essence of the statue — an enduring tribute to RG Lyngdoh’s powerful legacy, which continues to inspire and uplift society. The event concluded with a poem, “The Cap Befits You,” written and recited by Sonny L Khyriem.
By dedicating the bust statue to aesthetics and well-being, the event honoured RG Lyngdoh, acknowledging his immense contributions not only to his community but also to the greater good of humanity.
Now standing as a symbol of his unwavering commitment to societal progress and personal enrichment, the statue serves as a testament to his lasting influence.
