SHILLONG, March 12: The Meghalaya government has claimed that it has taken several measures to combat cybercrime in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, in a reply tabled on the floor of the House, said that the government has established a dedicated post of Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime), created a Cyber Crime Police Station for the state, and launched a 24/7 Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) for immediate assistance.
He stated that cybercrime cases in the state are investigated and prosecuted under various Acts of Parliament, including the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The Deputy Chief Minister further highlighted that several initiatives have been implemented to enhance cyber security awareness, particularly in rural areas, with regular awareness programs being conducted across the state.
It may be mentioned that recently several cases of digital crime and fraud were reported in the state.
