Tura, March 12: Various job card holders from the village of Haripur – II have written a complaint to C&RD Minister AT Mondal seeking action against a former VEC secretary over misappropriation of MGNREGS funds.
In their complaint, job card holders sought action against the former secretary, identified as Golam Hashan who they alleged had misappropriated an amount of over Rs 32 lakh from developmental works allotted to the village. The money was apparently transferred to Hashan’s personal account in the year 2019.
The matter came to light after an RTI was done by a resident following which the BDO of Selsella had issued a directive instructing the former secretary to return the funds before Mar 2024. However despite ample time being provided to him, Hashan is yet to return the money. “We are concerned with the adverse impact this will have on the village. The misused funds were meant for payment of wages and developmental work and the non payment has hindered many. A formal complaint was also lodged by the general public in Jan 2025. If the money is returned, several pending payments can be cleared,” stated the villagers in a complaint.
Urging the minister to take strict action against the fund misuse by Hashan, the villagers asked for the minister to act on the matter and ensure the money illegally taken is returned by the former secretary.
