SHILLONG, March 23: In a tragic accident, a 60-year-old man was crushed to death after a truck accidentally ran over him near Kynroh Maram near Mawryngkneng on Saturday night.
According to the police, an SUV bearing registration number ML10 D 0678, driven by Benjamin Ryntathiang, was en route from Jaintia Hills to Shillong. Upon reaching a sharp curve amid a traffic jam, the SUV moved to the wrong side of the road and collided with an unidentified vehicle, causing minor damage. The other truck fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Following the collision, the SUV was stuck in the middle of the road. Deilangshirup Law, a 60-year-old resident of Lower Mawprem, Shillong, alighted from the vehicle to inspect the damage. While he was examining the underside of the vehicle by lying on the ground, another truck, driven by Jewanmi Talang of Musiaw, West Jaintia Hills, approached from the opposite direction and accidentally ran over him. Deilangshirup died on the spot. The family has sought an exemption from post-mortem.
