SHILLONG, March 25: Meghalaya has been recognised as one of the top-performing states in the country for its outstanding efforts in the 100-day TB Elimination Campaign.
The award was conferred by Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare JP Nadda during the World TB Day observance held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on March 24.
The recognition highlighted Meghalaya’s commitment to eradicate tuberculosis through targeted interventions, enhanced healthcare infrastructure and innovative community-driven initiatives.
It is said that the state’s strategic approach, including active case finding among vulnerable populations using digital mobile X-ray units which are AI-enabled and NAAT diagnostic tools, has significantly contributed to reaching the unreached and enabling early detection of TB cases within the community.
Receiving the award on behalf of the state, Secretary of Health & Family Welfare-cum-Mission Director, National Health Mission, Meghalaya, Ramkumar S said the award is a testament to the collective efforts of healthcare workers, community volunteers, and policymakers who have tirelessly worked towards a TB-free Meghalaya.
“We remain committed to strengthening our healthcare initiatives and ensuring accessible treatment for all,” he said.
Alongside the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign, the “Meghalaya Comprehensive TB Care” was also launched with the aim of providing free transport, free additional tests, and additional nutritional support to TB patients.
The government has adopted over 4,500 TB patients under Meghalaya Comprehensive TB Care, becoming a “Universal Ni-Kshay Mitra” and the only state providing TB patients and their family members with nutritional kits costing Rs 2,000 per month.
