Shillong, March 28: The KHADC on Friday reconstituted the select committee for examining the KHAD (Khasi Inheritance of Property) Bill, 2021.
KHADC CEM Shemborlang Rynjah tabling the report of the select committee on the final day of the council budget session said that the bill was referred to the select committee to examine and consider the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Inheritance of Property) Bill 2021 which was then re-constituted on July 3, 2023, with Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the then CEM as the Chairman along with other members.
“However, the term of the select committee has expired without submitting the report and the executive committee hereby suggest before the House to re-constitute the new members of the select committee,” Rynjah said.
The re-constituted select committee will be headed by the CEM. The other members are executive members in charge Law department Deity M Majaw, senior NPP MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri and VPP MDC Denzil R Chen.
EC to look into suggestion for official map
KHADC Executive Member in charge of Land department, Powell Sohkhlet on Friday assured the House that the executive committee will look into the suggestion of the opposition members the need to have an official map of the council.
While replying to the question raised by the HSPDP MDC from Mawshynrut, Srally Rashir, during the Question Hour on the final day of the budget session, Sohkhlet said that the boundaries of the areas of the council are based on the boundaries of the Himas, Elakas, and villages.
According to the EM, there is no record that would suggest that the council had any discussion earlier on the need to have its official map to define its boundaries.
“But we will take steps if we feel there is a need to have an official map,” he said.
Opposition leader, Titosstarwell Chyne however reminded that the council had constituted the boundary committee where they have collected the documents from the Himas, Elakas and village durbars to prove land ownership of people in border areas under the KHADC.
Earlier, Rashir said that it is unfortunate that the council is yet to have its official map since its inception.
