JHADC passes Rs. 257 cr Budget for 2025-26

JOWAI, March 28: The Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on Friday passed the Budget for the financial year 2025-2026, amounting to Rs. 257.23 crore. The budget was passed on the concluding day, which was presided over by Chairman Dr. Sankey Shangpung.
The budget allocations include Rs. 13.28 crore for General Administration, Rs. 31.75 crore for Finance & Accounts, Rs. 11.46 crore for Land Revenue & Land Reform, Rs. 10.60 crore for Land Record & Land Settlement, and Rs. 4.93 crore for Taxation. Similarly, the Forest Department has been allocated Rs. 15.59 crore, while the Political Department received Rs. 4.52 crore. Civil Works has the highest allocation at Rs. 100.15 crore, followed by Rs. 25.75 crore for Education. Art and Culture received Rs. 2.37 crore, and the Market sector was granted Rs. 20.36 crore. Other allocations include Rs. 1.53 crore for Statistics and Information, Rs. 1.38 crore for Stationery & Printing, Rs. 1.24 crore for Planning, Rs. 3.25 crore for Judicial, Rs. 7.54 crore for Legislative, and Rs. 1.46 crore for Village and Town Administration.
Wailad Dameshwa Siangshai from Musniang Rngad was elected unopposed as the new Deputy Chairman of the JHADC. Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat, along with other Members of the District Council (MDCs), congratulated the newly elected Deputy Chairman, expressing confidence in his leadership.
Additionally, a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the financial years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017 was presented by the CEM.
The session also saw the reconstitution of key committees.
The Public Accounts Committee of JHADC, Jowai, was restructured, with Leader of Opposition AA Shullai appointed as Chairman, and members including M. Pariat, MB Rymbai, M. Sutnga, and the District Council Secretary as Secretary.
Furthermore, the House Committee of JHADC, Jowai, was reconstituted with Dr. S. Shangpung as Chairman, the Deputy Chairman as Vice-Chairman, and members M. Rikut Parien, M. Wormanship Shadap, M. Krison Langstang, and M. Reformingson Lamare, with the District Council Secretary serving as Secretary.
