SHILLONG, March 30: Sein Raij Niamtre Shillong has demanded a public apology from Reading War and Rev. Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh for their recent remarks, questioning the relevance of Ka Niam Behdeïnkhlam and Chad Sukra.
The organisation strongly condemned their comments, made during a discussion on environmental issues, as deeply disrespectful to the faith and cultural heritage of the Jaintia community. It expressed deep distress over what it described as a blatant dismissal and mockery of these sacred and time-honored religious festivals, particularly the derogatory use of the term “Chad Cement”.
In a strongly worded statement, the organisation emphasised that such remarks were not only an affront to the faith but also an attack on the Jaintia community’s rich cultural heritage.
“Behdeïnkhlam and Chad Sukra hold deep spiritual significance and are an integral part of our traditions. Any attempt to belittle these customs is an insult to the identity and beliefs of thousands of adherents of Niamtre,” the statement read.
The Sein Raij Niamtre Shillong reiterated its commitment to religious harmony, affirming its respect for all faiths and expecting the same in return.
“We urge responsible discourse, free from prejudice and derogatory comments, especially in public platforms. Such remarks can create division and hurt the sentiments of communities that have coexisted peacefully for centuries,” stated.
The organisation called on those responsible for the comments to issue a public apology and demonstrate respect for all religious traditions.
Reaffirming its dedication to preserving and safeguarding its spiritual and cultural heritage, Sein Raij Niamtre Shillong assured that it would continue its efforts to uphold the dignity of Niamtre in the face of such challenges.
