SHILLONG, March 31: In a move to provide continued financial relief to electricity consumers, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has extended its One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme 2025 by another month.
Initially set to conclude on March 31, the scheme will now remain available until April 30, 2025, following an overwhelming response from consumers.
Launched on March 4 by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in the presence of the power minister, the scheme has already made a significant impact in helping consumers clear outstanding electricity dues.
The OTS Scheme 2025 is designed for Domestic and Below Poverty Line (BPL) consumers with a connected load of 5KW and below, especially those disconnected due to non-payment.
A key feature of the scheme is the 100 per cent waiver on the Delay Payment Surcharge (DPC), offering substantial financial relief to consumers with overdue bills. Eligible consumers can opt for either a One-Time Full Payment or an Interest-Free Instalment Plan, ensuring flexible repayment options.
So far, 12,262 consumers have enrolled in the scheme, leading to the successful settlement of Rs 15.97 crore in outstanding dues. This includes Rs 11.13 crore as the principal amount and Rs 4.84 crore waived under the DPC waiver provision.
With the deadline extended, MePDCL has urged all eligible consumers to take advantage of this opportunity and avoid additional penalties or service disruptions.
Consumers have also been asked visit the nearest MePDCL office or call the toll-free number 1912 for detailed guidelines and enrollment procedures.
