SHILLONG, April 1: The state government has notified the Search Committee to select the Chairman of the Meghalaya Lokayukta, which has remained without a head since former Lokayukta Chairperson B. Dhar retired on February 28 this year.
Chief Secretary DP Wahlang informed that the Search Committee was notified after receiving approval from the Selection Committee, headed by the chief minister.
Despite the absence of a chairman, Wahlang clarified that the Lokayukta panel can still receive complaints.
It may be mentioned that the Lokayukta office in Meghalaya plays a crucial role in identifying and eliminating corruption within state government organisations.
Under the Meghalaya Lokayukta Act, the body is empowered to investigate allegations of corruption against public functionaries and related matters.
