Shillong, April 3: Former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang was sworn in as the State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar administered the oath, and Suchiang will serve a three-year term. The position had remained vacant since former CIC H. Nongpluh was appointed as a member of the Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission.

The event was attended by DGP Idashisha Nongrang, Principal Secretaries F.R. Kharkongor and Pravin Bakshi, retired IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh, and other officials.

Notably, Suchiang, a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was the first Khasi woman to hold the position of Chief Secretary.
