SHILLONG, April 2: ‘Reckless’ comments inviting China to expand its influence in India’s Northeastern states by Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, have drawn sharp condemnation from BJP leader AL Hek.
Hek stated that any statement against the nation’s interests is unacceptable, especially when such interference comes from outside the country. “It is the duty of the country to safeguard its citizens’ welfare and ensure that there is no external interference in our internal matters,” he said.
However, Hek asserted that there is no need to approach the Central Government regarding Yunus’ remarks, as the situation in the state remains peaceful.
Meanwhile, Hek expressed strong support for the “One Nation, One Election” proposal, calling it one of the best policy initiatives.
Speaking to media persons, he pointed out that frequent elections in India disrupt developmental activities due to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.
“This also involves significant expenses, and ultimately, it is the people who suffer the most,” he said.
When asked about the upcoming GHADC elections, the BJP leader hinted that the party would contest the polls next year.
“If a political party does not contest elections, then what is its purpose?” he remarked, adding that the BJP continues its groundwork regardless of whether elections are under way.
