NONGPOH, April 7: A deadly road accident claimed the lives of two men in the early hours of Monday on NH-6 at Umlyngkdait, Ri-Bhoi. The fatal crash, which occurred around 12:05 am, involved a car slamming into the rear of an unidentified truck that subsequently fled the scene.
The Nongpoh Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 12:22 am by a passerby. Responding officers identified the victims as Robi Paswan, 30, from Lumparing, Shillong, who was driving the vehicle (registration ML05R8598), and Prakash, 26, from Vasanthanagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, a passenger. Both were confirmed dead at the scene, their identities established through driving licences found on their persons.
Preliminary findings suggest that the car, en route from Shillong to Guwahati, collided with the truck under circumstances yet to be fully determined.
The impact left the car severely mangled, while the truck involved escaped, prompting a police search for the vehicle and its driver.
Emergency services swiftly attended to the case, where legal formalities were completed. The deceased were transported to Civil Hospital Nongpoh’s Emergency Room before being moved to the morgue. The wrecked car was towed to Nongpoh Police Station’s service road for safekeeping and further examination.
