SHILLONG, April 11: A group of students and teachers from Kendriya Vidyalayas under the Regional Office, Silchar, paid an enriching educational visit to the Parliament of India on Wednesday, as part of a guided programme organised by Lok Sabha PRIDE (Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies).
According to a statement here, the tour is aimed to provide students with firsthand insight into the workings of the Indian parliamentary system and the nation’s democratic structure.
During the visit, the group explored the Old Parliament Building, where they visited the Central Hall, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers—iconic sites steeped in India’s legislative legacy.
A key highlight was viewing the original copy of the Constitution of India, preserved in the Parliament Library.
“The delegation also toured the New Parliament Building, an architectural symbol of New India, where they witnessed the new Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha halls, Constitution Gallery, Sangrahalaya (Museum), Art Gallery and Committee Rooms. The modern design and technological advancements showcased India’s commitment to an efficient and transparent legislative process,” the statement said.
Further, the group visited the Samvidhan Sadan, which commemorates the drafting of the Constitution, and the Prerna Sthal, which honours national leaders who shaped modern India.
“The visit proved to be an inspiring educational experience, allowing students to connect deeply with the values of democracy, civic responsibility and constitutional awareness. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and participating schools expressed gratitude to Lok Sabha PRIDE for this valuable opportunity that combined learning with national pride,” the statement said.
