Jowai joins World Homoeopathy Day celebrations

From Our Correspondent

JOWAI, April 12: West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh has suggested the youths to consider pursuing a career in homeopathy, while highlighting its growing relevance and effectiveness in modern healthcare.
Speaking at the World Homoeopathy Day celebration held at the District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai, the deputy commissioner, in his address as the chief guest, emphasised the increasing demand for homeopathic practitioners and shared his personal experience with homeopathy.
He stated that while it may take longer than allopathic treatments to show results, the benefits are significant and long-lasting.
He also noted that homeopathy’s 200-year-old legacy continues to find recognition across the world.
Organised by the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) in collaboration with the AYUSH department, the event, thematised on ‘Joy of Homoeopathy Day’, aimed to disseminate public awareness and commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.
DMHO, Dr. Patricia Shylla, who was the guest of honour, described homeopathy as a vital aspect of healthcare based on the principle of “like cures like”—the notion that a disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people.
She also underlined homeopathic treatment as natural, cost-effective approach with fewer side effects and its holistic consideration of the body, mind and spirit.
Meanwhile, District Nodal Officer of AYUSH, Dr. Bonnie T. Hinge, provided an insightful presentation on the theme and sub-theme ‘The Joy of Homeopathy: Education, Teaching, and Research’.
She also informed about a week-long programme held to mark the celebration, which included school health camps and free medical camps conducted by AYUSH teams.
She then spoke about the broader role of AYUSH—encompassing Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy—and its contribution to integrated healthcare.
Other speakers, including Dr. Synrem and Dr. Daphnecia Pariat, also stressed the global acceptance and evolution of homeopathy, noting its effectiveness in treating chronic and mental health issues.
With over 3 lakh registered practitioners worldwide, homeopathy continues to impact millions, especially in countries where it is part of national healthcare systems.
