Shillong, April 19: Smt S. Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Nagaland, has been nominated as a Member to the Court of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) by the Vice President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, effective from April 15, 2025, as per a communication from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

Established on 19 July 1973 through an Act of Parliament, NEHU has long stood as a premier institution of higher education in India’s North East. Its jurisdiction initially extended to the states of Meghalaya and Nagaland, along with the then Union Territories of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

Smt. Konyak’s nomination reflects her dedication to public service and deep engagement with the educational and developmental aspirations of the North East. Her association with NEHU resonates strongly with the University’s motto: “Rise Up and Build.”

This appointment is expected to further enhance the institution’s linkages with the people of the region and support its ongoing pursuit of academic excellence and inclusive progress.
