SHILLONG, April 19: The incomplete Smart Road project in Lachumiere remains in a dilapidated condition for the past couple of years, with the state government showing little urgency to address the issue.
The project was launched with much enthusiasm a few years ago. However, nearly a year into the construction, the government declared the road unfeasible and cancelled the project last year.
Ironically, even 9-10 months after the cancellation announcement, the road has been left unattended, causing growing concern among residents and commuters.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, recently stated that the government will soon sanction funds to resurface roads that were cancelled under the Smart Road initiative.
A detailed project report (DPR) has already been submitted by the Public Works Department (PWD) following the project’s cancellation.
Despite these developments, the Lachumiere road remains neglected, raising questions about the government’s commitment to restoring basic infrastructure.
