SHILLONG, April 21: The Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Pynursla, has advised commuters and public alike to exercise extreme caution while travelling along the ongoing road construction stretch between Chainage kms 24+00 (Laitlyngkot) and 37+00 (Lyngkyrdem) due to heightened landslide risks.
According to a statement here, the risk of landslides in the aforesaid area has increased significantly owing to hill-cutting activities linked to the road construction, combined with the onset of the monsoon season.
In this regard, the authorities have strongly urged the public to follow strict safety precautions to avoid untoward incidents.
Commuters have been advised to avoid non-essential travel during or immediately after heavy rainfall.
Similarly, the public has also been instructed to follow all traffic signage and directions issued by road safety personnel of the implementing agency.
Emphasis has been laid on driving carefully and safely, particularly near slopes and areas where construction activity is ongoing.
Further, in case of any signs of land movement or road damage, individuals have been asked to report the matter to the Block Development Officer, Pynursla C&RD Block, or the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Pynursla Civil Sub-Division.
