SHILLONG, April 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday called for a unified regional strategy to leverage Northeast’s proximity to South East Asia, emphasising that it positions the region well for development, while pointing to the corridor’s potential in fostering trade and connectivity with international markets.
The CM was participating in the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Task Force on the North East Economic Corridor (NEEC), convened through video conferencing. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The meeting marked a significant step in the central government’s efforts to formulate a cohesive regional economic development framework for the Northeastern states.
Following the meeting, Chief Minister Sangma shared his thoughts on social media, emphasising the region’s untapped economic potential.
“The North East, as a unified region, holds significant potential to drive national economic growth through strategic partnerships that leverage each State’s strengths,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks align with the broader vision of the NEEC, which aims to enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and sectoral synergies across the eight Northeastern states.
