SHILLONG, April 25: The second round of Assam-Meghalaya border talks are set to resume after the Panchayat elections in Assam, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said on Friday.
Informing that the discussions between the two states had come to a standstill due to the ongoing Panchayat elections in Assam, he said, “We will resume talks after the election.”
It may be mentioned that the elections in Assam will conclude on May 11 with the counting of votes.
The second phase of talks between Assam and Meghalaya has remained on hold for over a year, with several proposed timelines for resumption having already passed without progress.
Assam and Meghalaya share an 885-km-long border, with six key points of dispute identified. Although both chief ministers had earlier announced plans to jointly visit these disputed areas, the visits are yet to materialise.
