SHILLONG, April 26: Several rooms at the permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Saitsohpen, Sohra, were affected by water leakage on Thursday evening following a period of heavy rain, strong winds and thunder.
Confirming the incident, NIT Registrar Dr. B. Chakravarty stated that the water had seeped into the boys’ and girls’ hostels as well as various rooms in the office building. He mentioned that the rainfall lasted continuously for nearly two hours.
The institute’s engineering and technical teams are currently working to address the issue and carry out repairs wherever possible.
Dr. Chakravarty noted that he could not comment on whether the leakage was caused by poor construction quality until a thorough technical inspection is conducted.
He also mentioned that construction activities are still ongoing on the campus and assured that authorities will investigate to determine whether the problem lies in the technical design or the construction process.
