SHILLONG, April 27: The state government will sanction funds for the long-pending BPL housing project at Lumphira, Nongmensong, once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is finalised.
Initially proposed under the now-defunct Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme, the project originally aimed to construct 600 housing units. Of these, around 100 units have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. The government now plans to complete the remaining work under the State Plan.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, said, “At present, the DPR is being prepared. We are committed to completing all the remaining BPL housing units.”
He further informed that funds would be allocated from the State Plan to complete the pending work.
“We will assess the amount required once the proposal is ready. I assure you that we will immediately sanction the necessary funds,” Dhar said.
In addition to completing the housing units, the government also plans to construct internal roads and address other associated works. Dhar assured that the completed housing units would be handed over to the intended beneficiaries.
“These homes are meant for the underprivileged, and we are committed to ensuring their delivery,” he said.
