New Delhi, April 28: The BJP on Monday slammed BKU president Naresh Tikait over his remarks against the government for its putting in abeyance the Indus Waters Treaty, with Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accusing the farmer leader of standing against India.
The minister asserted that no water would be given to those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack.
The remark came after Tikait in a video clip that made rounds on social media condemned the Pahalgam terror strike and called for the strictest action against those involved.
He, however, also remarked that the Narendra Modi government should not have suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan as it would affect the common people, especially farmers, in the neighbouring country.
“Some people have started opposing the country while opposing the (Modi) government. We will not give water to those who spilled the blood of innocents and also those responsible for it,” Chouhan, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, told reporters here when asked for comment on Tikait’s remarks.
The BJP accused BKU president of speaking the “language of Pakistan” and demanded an apology from him. “Naresh Tikait is speaking the language of Pakistan. He says the government’s decision to stop water was wrong. (PTI)
