USTM announces scholarship programme for NE students

SHILLONG, May 4: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has launched a scholarship programme for 500 students from Northeast India for the 2025-26 academic year.
The scholarships are categorised as follows: Merit-Based (250), Sports Achievements (50), Cultural Achievements (50), Children of Tea Garden Workers (50), Residents of Majuli & Dhemaji (20), Families of Freedom Fighters or Martyrs (20), Children affected by violence and conflict (20), Children of Media Personnel (20), and Orphan or Single Girl Child (20).
It was informed by the Director of Admissions & Training and Placement Division that 100%  scholarships will be awarded to state board toppers from Northeast states. Students scoring 85% and above will be eligible for a 30% scholarship, while those from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) can avail up to 50% under a merit-cum-means model.
Scholarships are also available for students scoring above the 60th percentile in national exams such as JEE (Mains), GATE, CAT, MAT, and XAT; those excelling in sports or cultural events recognised by bodies such as SAI, IOA, FISU, SGFI, or the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; students with physical disabilities (eligible for 30% scholarship); and those from violence-affected areas (eligible for a 15% special scholarship).
