SHILLONG, May 7: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday held a meeting with Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, to discuss the modalities for the expansion of the runway at Shillong Airport.
The government told the DoNER Minister that the state is fully committed to completing all necessary formalities to commence the upgrade work at the earliest.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently floated tender for the expansion of Shillong Airport’s runway to facilitate the landing of bigger aircrafts.
The upgrade work includes a 571-metre extension of the existing runway, which will bring its total length to 2,400 metres. This will also facilitate the operation of A-320 type aircraft in Shillong. In addition, the project involves the expansion of the terminal building and apron, along with various associated infrastructure works. As per the tender notice, the estimated cost of the mega project is Rs 119.44 crore, and the expected completion period is 18 months
