Govt ups ex gratia for next of kin of defence personnel
SHILLONG, May 9: Rajya Sainik Board Secretary, Col (Retd) Darryl Hopkins, on Thursday informed that the Meghalaya government has raised the state ex gratia grant for the Next of Kin (NoK) of Armed Forces personnel from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. Speaking at the 25th meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board, Col (Retd) Hopkins highlighted several key decisions taken by the government. One such development is the near-completion of the Sainik Rest House-cum-Office Complex in Shillong, a project being executed by the Public Works Department. He further stated that the appointment of a Zila Sainik Welfare Officer in Tura is currently underway. In addition, the government is actively considering the establishment of a Sainik Rest House in Tura, along with integrated facilities such as a polyclinic and a CSD outlet to support veterans in the Garo Hills region. Col (Retd) Hopkins also announced that Welfare Organiser posts have been sanctioned for Jowai and Baghmara, and the recruitment of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) for these posts is in progress to address the needs of veterans in these areas. He further mentioned that the one-time grant for gallantry and distinguished service awards has been enhanced, bringing Meghalaya on par with other Northeastern states.
