SHILLONG, May 10: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has re-emphasised the long-term negative impact of the CM IMPACT guidebooks for Class 10 students, claiming that the initiative will downgrade the standard of education and cause absorption issues in colleges.
“We have made our stand very clear that we will not accept the introduction of the SSLC guidebooks for our students,” VPP supremo and Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit reiterated while talking to reporters on Saturday.
He said after the improved pass percentage in the SSLC examination this year, students are facing difficulties in getting admission as the colleges have not been able to absorb all of them.
“Government had blundered by introducing the guidebooks. You cannot concentrate only on pass percentage but also quality. Secondly, you have to think of the future of the students when they compete with students from outside the state,” Basaiawmoit said, claiming that the guidebooks are not going to help students in the long run.
The VPP had earlier demanded trashing these guidebooks, claiming that they would adversely impact the quality of education in the state.
The SSLC pass rate went up from 55.80% in 2024 to 87.10% this year, triggering both applause and critical questions.
Officials of the Education Department and observers had attributed the phenomenal 31.3% leap to a confluence of targeted academic interventions, including the rollout of CM IMPACT guidebooks.
Distributed to students across the state, these structured and syllabus-aligned materials helped simplify preparation and reduce exam anxiety, particularly in government and rural schools.
