KSU rescues EJH girl from ‘forced confinement’ in Delhi

NEW DELHI/ SHILLONG, May 11: A 22-year-old tribal girl from Lad Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills, who had come to the national capital in search of a job, was allegedly forcefully confined at the residence of a man in Hasanpur locality of Delhi at knife point. Her ordeal ended when she was rescued by the Delhi unit of the Khasi Students’ Union and the local police here on Sunday.
The rescue operation was initiated after the victim contacted the KSU Delhi Unit around 11:30 PM on Saturday, informing them of her situation.
Acting promptly, KSU Delhi unit president Marbiang Khongwir and vice president Donbok Pohrmen approached Madhu Vihar police station as the victim’s address or location of the house where she was confined was not known.
Following an overnight search operation, the address was confirmed and the girl was finally rescued at around 5 AM on Sunday.
The youth involved in the alleged detention was taken into custody by the police. Following her rescue, KSU members accompanied the victim for a medical examination, after her statement was recorded by the police.
However, the victim chose not to file a formal complaint against the accused. The police released her after medical examination.
As per reports, the victim came in contact with the accused regarding a job. There were arguments with the accused after which she was allegedly confined.
The girl was safely escorted back to her residence, the KSU said, while lauding the Delhi Police and the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region for their timely assistance and support in resolving the matter.
