Drone found in Bengal’s Murshidabad non-lethal: BSF
Kolkata, May 11: The BSF South Bengal Frontier on Sunday urged the public not to spread rumours along the eastern border and downplayed concerns over a drone found in Murshidabad, describing it as a harmless photography device with no payload capacity. The paramilitary force’s remark comes amidst heightened tension along the north-western frontier due to repeated drone incursions by Pakistan in recent days. In a statement on the Murshidabad drone, the paramilitary force emphasised that it was a non-lethal, commercial device with no payload capacity, typically used for photography during events. Such drones are “used by our photographers to cover any function or event and have no load carrying capacity,” the BSF clarified. (PTI)

7 held in UP for killing 2, staging deaths to claim insurance
Sambhal, May 11: Police in Sambhal on Sunday arrested seven persons for allegedly killing two men and staging the deaths as accidents to claim insurance money, officials said. The gang allegedly orchestrated the murders of Salim and Aman, and staged them as road accidents to fraudulently claim their hefty insurance policies. ASP Anukriti Sharma said, “Salim was murdered on July 29, 2022, while Aman was killed on November 15, 2023. Both the cases were shown as deaths caused by road accidents, leading police to initially close the files.” A probe revealed that Aman’s maternal uncle, Vedprakash, along with his accomplices allegedly murdered him after securing insurance policies worth Rs 2.70 crore issued by different companies in the deceased’s name, the officer said. Further probe exposed the gang’s involvement in a similar case involving the death of Salim in 2022, in which they fraudulently claimed Rs 75 lakh in insurance money from various companies. (PTI)
