Meghalaya athletes shine in Asian Armwrestling and Para-Armwrestling tourney

Shillong, May 14: Meghalaya bagged a rich haul of 43 Medals – 12 gold, 12 silver, and 19 bronze – at the recently concluded 23rd Asian Armwrestling & 22nd Asian Para-Armwrestling Championship 2025 held from May 3-11, 2025 in Delh.
Out of the 24 gold medals won by Team India, 12 gold medals were won by athletes from Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Armwrestling Association (MAWA) said in a release on Wednesday.
The Meghalaya team comprised of 28 athletes of different categories that includes 10 Para athletes (3 juniors & 8 seniors), 4 masters, 2 Grandmasters, 1 junior, 5 youths and 6 seniors, 3 referees and 2 officials.
The star for Meghalaya in the tournament was Aisilda Thabah, who bagged 2 gold (Left & Right Hand – HI Standing Women 60 Kg), 1 silver (Right Hand – HI Junior Girls Open Category) and 1 bronze medal (Left Hand – HI Junior Girls Open Category).
Additionally, one of the MAWA executive members, Sumita Kshiar has been chosen to be part of the Governing Body Member of the Peoples Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) – the national body of armwrestling in India.
Kshiar is also the first female armwrestling referee from Meghalaya to be qualified as an Asian International Armwrestling Referee. Two other referees from Meghalaya – Nick Nonglyer and Angel Mary M Umlong, also qualified as Asian level Armwrestling Referee.
