SHILLONG, May 15: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Southern Border Zone, East Jaintia Hills, has sought an urgent intervention from Power Minister AT Mondal to address the ongoing lack of electricity in the Dong Mihsngi locality of Bataw village.
A delegation from the JSU met the minister and highlighted the severe hardships faced by residents due to the absence of a power connection.
According to the JSU, Dong Mihsngi remains without electricity — an issue that has significantly affected daily life and safety in the area. It rued how students are unable to study at night, and families continue to struggle with routine chores. The community also reported disruptions to economic activities, as small businesses cannot operate efficiently and agricultural resources remain underutilised.
Safety is another major concern, as the lack of lighting in homes and on village roads poses serious risks during the evening and night hours.
Meanwhile, Mondal has assured the delegation that the issue would be addressed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). He pledged that the electrification of the area would be completed in the coming months.
In a statement, the JSU has expressed appreciation for the minister’s assurance.
