Traffic police booth, public urinal facility come up at city locality

SHILLONG, May 16: A new traffic police booth and public urinal facility were inaugurated at Red Cross, Laban by South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai. The twin facilities, constructed at a cost of Rs 6.3 lakh, aim to improve both traffic management and public sanitation in the area. The public toilet was built under the Swachh Bharat Mission. During the inaugural programme, Shullai also announced plans to replicate the initiative in Batti Bazar, another busy locality in Laban, by setting up a similar traffic booth and urinal to better serve the local community. The public toilet was constructed in response to longstanding demands from local taxi drivers and shopkeepers. Meanwhile, SP (Traffic) K Prasad, during the inauguration, said that the new police booth would provide vital support to traffic personnel in managing the high volume of vehicles and conducting routine checks more efficiently.
CRPF organises plantation drive at Shillong localities
SHILLONG, May 16: In its efforts toward environmental conservation and community engagement, the 67th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Polo, Shillong, on Friday organised a plantation drive at its campus and surrounding areas, including Lawmali Pyllun, Forest Colony and the Buddha Temple area. The drive involved the planting of 286 indigenous and environment-friendly saplings, aimed at enhancing green cover, improving ecological balance and promoting sustainable living. Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeev Kumar, Second-in-Commandant, 67 BN, CRPF, spoke about the CRPF’s commitment to not only ensuring internal security but also contributing to the welfare of the environment and society. He encouraged personnel and the local community to continue such efforts to make a lasting impact. It may be mentioned that this initiative reflects the CRPF’s mission to not only engage in nation-building activities beyond its operational duties but also to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations. The 67th Battalion CRPF expressed gratitude to all participants and reaffirmed its dedication to environmental responsibility and community outreach. Present on the occasion were Deputy Commandant Thanglenlal Misao; Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar and members of the local community. It may be mentioned that this special plantation drive was conducted under the valuable guidance of Anshuman Yadav, IPS, IG, NES, CRPF, and under the supervision of Anil Kumar Dhyani, DIG, Range, Guwahati. Sunil Kumar Savita, Commandant, 67 BN, CRPF, also closely monitored the event and encouraged all officers, subordinate officers, and jawans to participate actively and expand plantation efforts.
