SHILLONG, May 19: Miffed with the dust pollution caused by construction activities, members of the Khliehriat Circle of the Jaintia National Council (JNC) held discussions with the site engineer from Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt. Ltd, the firm working on the National Highway in the Khliehriat region of East Jaiñtia Hills.
Commuters, students, and residents have been complaining about the increasing levels of dust pollution caused by the construction activities.
Earlier, the JNC submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the department concerned to ensure regular watering of the under-construction road to control dust. An order was reportedly issued to the contractor to implement dust control measures, but it was not heeded.
The JNC subsequently sought prompt action from the site engineer. During the discussion, they highlighted the detrimental effects of dust on public health. It insisted that the issue be addressed without delay. After the meeting, the engineer verbally committed to watering the road twice daily.
