TURA, May 22: The GSU, Western Zone, has called for the cancellation of recent appointments to the posts of AYUSH Medical Officers and Yoga Instructor under the AYUSH Mission in Ampati.
In this regard, members of the GSU Western Zone (South), led by its president Megadeth Mrong Marak, called on West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and District AYUSH Mission Chairperson, Hema Nayak, on Thursday and submitted a representation “on behalf of the citizens of Ampati and the entire Garo community”, expressing concern and questioning the appointment process.
According to the GSU, out of six posts for AYUSH Medical Officers and one post for Yoga Instructor, it was alleged that none of the selected candidates belonged to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, even though it was learnt that at least a few Khasi (ST) candidates had appeared for the interview process.
This has raised serious questions as to how the posts intended to be reserved for tribal candidates could be awarded to individuals who do not belong to the ST category, the GSU said, adding that it has also raised doubts about the verification process of the selected candidates as residents of Meghalaya.
