SHILLONG, May 22: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has raised concerns over the dilapidated condition of the road connecting Khimusniang to the PHE Water Treatment Plant in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, and has called for immediate intervention by the authorities.
The JSU informed that the stretch has remained neglected for over a decade, causing immense hardship to daily commuters, particularly residents and students who rely on the route for access to essential services and institutions.
With the onset of the monsoon season, the condition of the road has further deteriorated, making it nearly impassable and raising significant safety concerns.
Although the Office of the Executive Engineer has reportedly submitted a revised estimate for the road’s repair, the JSU lamented the lack of any visible progress on the ground.
The union has now appealed to the PHE Minister to urgently approve and expedite the long-pending repair work.
It has also warned that continued delays may compel the organisation to pursue other means to ensure the restoration of what it terms a vital public link.
