SHILLONG, May 26: The ruling National People’s Party has dared the opposition Voice of the People Party to contest the upcoming GHADC elections in Garo Hills next year.
Former NPP state president and Rajya Sabha member, WR Kharlukhi on Tuesday taunted the VPP saying it must contest the GHADC elections if it is confident of forming the government in 2028.
“When you become a political party, you should be in existence in the whole state and not just in a region,” Kharlukhi said while downplaying the rise of the VPP in the state.
“In the last MP election, the VPP won in 25 assembly segments out of 36. However, now in the MDC election, they won in 17 seats. We still have three years left for the assembly election and there is no challenge for the NPP,” he said.
Denying any rumblings in the NPP, he said that the MDA 2.0 will remain in power till the end of its term and the way politics is shaping up in the state, the NPP will continue further.
He also claimed that the NPP is maintaining its growth even in Jaintia Hills which was indicated from the victory in the JHADC elections in February.
