Shillong, June 2:The Shillong Sports Association’s (SSA) Fourth Division League 2025 has been hit with a slight delay as crucial drainage work continues at the SSA football ground in Polo.
The postponement comes at a time when the SSA is unable to access the Meghalaya Football Association’s (MFA) artificial turf ground, which is currently under renovation. This has left the SSA solely dependent on its own facility to host league fixtures. The limited availability of venues has sparked concern among football enthusiasts and officials alike over whether the SSA will be able to carry out its full football calendar, including the high-profile Shillong Premier League, without further interruptions.Adding to the anticipation, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was initially scheduled to inaugurate the league on Monday. However, the ceremony had to be postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions.Later in the day, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing drainage work at the Polo ground after attending a send-off ceremony for the state’s U-20 boys’ team, who are heading to an elite training camp at the Olympique Lyonnais Academy in Lyon, France. He was joined by SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh, contractor Larsing M. Sawyan, and other senior officials.During the inspection, Sawyan assured that the drainage project would be completed within the next eight to nine days.
