SHILLONG, June 3: In a vibrant celebration of educational innovation, Trinity College London on Tuesday felicitated dedicated local teachers for their pivotal role in nurturing music, performance, communication and 21st-century skills among young learners.
The felicitation events, held in Dimapur, Kohima, Guwahati, and culminating in Shillong at the Taj Vivanta, underscored a shared commitment to preparing students for an ever-evolving future.
Established in 1872, Trinity College London is a leading international awarding organisation renowned for its assessments in communicative and performance skills, including music, drama, and English language. With over 850,000 candidates annually across 60 countries, Trinity’s qualifications are designed to inspire and equip learners with vital real-life skills. Trinity has maintained a strong presence in India since 1886, with assessments offered in the North East for the past two decades.
The Guwahati and Shillong  events, hosted by Minette Duncan Marbañiang, Local Area Coordinator for Trinity College London, in collaboration with HARMINI MUSIC ACADEMY and Melody and Tunes Yamaha Music Square, saw teachers receive awards from Jyotishka Dasgupta, Area Manager (East) of Trinity College London India.
Dasgupta eloquently praised teachers, stating, “The role and view of a teacher is like the lyrics of a John Denver song – Inch by Inch, Row by Row, I’m gonna make this garden grow.”
Dale Edwards, Academic Head for India for Language, Performance, and Communication, highlighted the importance of 21st-century skills and assessments, stressing a holistic approach to skill development for learners of all ages, starting from three years old.
Teachers were recognised not just for subject proficiency, but also for fostering creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, time management and organisational skills.
