SHILLONG, June 8: The weapon used in the murder of Indore-based tourist Raja Raghuvanshi is not a traditional Khasi dao (machete), police said on Sunday.
The weapon was recovered from the site where Raja’s body was discovered by the search team on June 2. The dao was recovered along with Raja’s mobile phone on June 3.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem had confirmed earlier that the dao was new, and used specifically for the murder.
Meanwhile, when asked about claims made by a neighbour of Raja Raghuvanshi in Indore that the couple had been chased by someone or some people in a four-wheeler, Syiem said they have no information or leads to support that claim.
The neighbour had made the claim in an interview to a media outlet.
Meanwhile, the search operation, conducted by a team comprising the NDRF and SDRF, continued on Sunday in the Pyndemdkhar area. Despite extensive search for the 16th day, the team has found no trace of Sonam Raghuvanshi.
