Shillong, June 9: The Meghalaya Police’s swift and efficient handling of the Indore case has garnered widespread praise from political leaders in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar congratulated the Home (Police) Department for solving the mysterious death of Raja Raghuvanshi and arresting those responsible.
He also appreciated the support extended by local residents, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) during the extensive search operation.
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma praised the Meghalaya Police for their swift and effective investigation in the gruesome murder case involving a couple from Indore.
He described the police’s handling of the case as “highly commendable”.
Sangma stressed the need for the investigation and charge sheeting process to be completed expeditiously, adding that such decisive action would serve as a strong deterrent to criminal elements considering Meghalaya as a potential haven for crime.
However, he made it clear that the level of efficiency shown in this particular case must be consistently demonstrated in all parts of the state.
Sangma also called on the police to apply the same dedication in tackling other issues such as illegal coal mining, crimes against women and children, and the drug menace. He expressed confidence in the competence of the state police and called on the public to demand that this efficiency be shown across the board, without the influence of political interference.
Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem acknowledged the negative impact the incident has had on Sohra’s image and that of the state as a whole.
He commended the leadership of Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang and East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem for their committed efforts. He also praised the tireless dedication shown by the NDRF, SDRF, and local volunteers over the past two weeks.
Sohra MDC Titosstarwell Chyne lauded the police for remaining focused and committed to the investigation despite intense public scrutiny and false allegations. He expressed concern over the misinformation spread during the course of the investigation and demanded a public apology from those who defamed institutions and targeted the community with false narratives.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) hailed Meghalaya police for their commendable efforts and tireless work in uncovering the truth in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.
MPCC secretary Manuel Badwar said that the police’s dedication and professionalism have brought the perpetrators out, showcasing their unwavering commitment to upholding the law.
The Meghalaya unit of the BJP congratulated the state police, particularly East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem and his team, SDRF, NDRF, the Adventure Club of Sohra, and all the people of the region who strived tirelessly for days to locate the missing couple.
